Seasonal flooding initially hit Osceola County's low lying Muskegon River areas on April 5th - April 11th, reaching significant flood levels and resulting in a Local State of Emergency.
After flood waters temporarily receded, an additional period of rains combined with saturated ground resulted in extraordinary flooding on April 14th in both the Evart and Marion area along with with damage / destruction of roadways countywide.
Osceola County declared a Local State of Emergency on April 14th and was added to a list of numerous Michigan Counties for a Governor's Disaster Declaration on April 15th.
Since, Osceola County Emergency Management has been supporting response/recovery efforts with flood waters peaking at 16.19 on April 17th and slowly receding to safe levels below 10.5ft on April 29th.
Exigent recovery efforts continued for over 2 more weeks providing essential services, debris management, and other activities with the Local State of Emergency terminating on 4pm May 15th.
Although Osceola County terminated it's Local State of Emergency on May 15th, it remains under a Governor's State of Emergency and is supporting efforts for a Presidential Declaration of Disaster along with State, FEMA, and MSP officials.
Financial recovery, after action evaluation, and corrective measures will be a remaining component for daily operations for at least another month concurrent with the previous Winter/Ice Storm Governor's Disaster Declaration.
Over the next few weeks, Osceola County EM will actively be working with the Michigan State Police - Emergency Management / Homeland Security Division and FEMA and local agencies in regard to recovery actions/efforts.
A flood recovery page has been established: https://www.osceolaemd.us/2026flood. Affected families & businesses are encouraged to refer to that page and associated resources for recovery.
Important Notes on Recovery Services: Remember - you should always start with your primary insurance agent to get information on what is covered under a flood claim. Also, although emergency services (such as water, care kits, etc.) are for everyone, many recovery services are limited to primary residents / businesses not secondary homes/cabins. Please take extra care to ensure compliance with posted recovery rules and eligibility for each program.
